What Is Medicare?

Medicare is government-funded health insurance for people 65 and older or who meet certain requirements.

Medicare allows for customization; it is separated into four parts that can be combined to achieve your ideal coverage.

Original Medicare

Part A

Hospital Insurance

Part B

Medical Insurance

If you have Social Security, you will be automatically enrolled in Original Medicare (Part A&B).

Additional Coverage

Part C

Medicare Advantage Plans

Part D

Prescription Drug Insurance

If Original Medicare does not meet your coverage needs, you can enroll in additional coverage (Part C & D).

Medicare Coverage Combinations

    1. Original Medicare (Parts A & B) or just Part A or just Part B
    2. Original Medicare plus a standalone Part D plan
    3. Original Medicare plus a standalone Part D plan plus a Medicare Supplement plan
    4. Original Medicare plus a Medicare Supplement plan
    5. A Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan with built-in drug coverage
    6. A Medicare Advantage plan without drug coverage
    7. A Medicare Advantage plan without drug coverage plus a standalone Part D plan, only works with certain Medicare Advantage plan types
